Summer 2015 – Genre Intensive 15-08-2137

Genre Intensive

Bayfront Theater, San Francisco

Schedule: 4 sessions of 6 hours, each day focusing on a different genre. Sign up for as few or as many as you want. If you sign up for all 4 sessions, save $50! 

  • Monday, August 3rd – Film Noir
  • Monday, August 10th – Western
  • Monday, August 17th – Victorian/Jane Austen
  • Sunday, August 23rd – Tennessee Williams
     

Class Time/Dates: 2pm-9pm with a 45 minute dinner break from 5-5:45pm on Mondays August 3, 10, 17, and Sunday, August 23.
Performance: One performance on Monday, August 24th at 7pm. **Performance priority will be given to students who take all or most of these genre classes.**
Class size: 10 students maximum
Class length: 6 hours of instruction in each genre, 24 hours total of instruction for all four sessions.

This workshop will explore the rich world of genres — books, plays, and movies and how to adapt them to the improv stage.  Specifically, we will be looking at the requirements for creating improvised 45 minute long-form stories in these genres.   Rather than skimming the tops of many genres, this class will delve more deeply into one genre per day. Enroll in one, two, three, or four genres and meet each week to immerse in specific characters, locations and situations.  Before the workshop begins you will be asked to watch original source material in a given genre.  There will be a performance for students on Monday August 24th, 7pm  with preference given to students who take all or most of the classes.
