Foundation 1

Online sessions:
Prerequisite: None
Schedule: 8 sessions (once a week for 8 weeks)
Class length: 2 hours (16 hours total)
Class size: 16 students maximum
Tuition: $299

Foundation 1 is a fun introduction to the joys and thrills of improvisation and the BATS style of improvised theatre. Students learn improv concepts and vocabulary, practice these new skills, and play in a safe, friendly atmosphere.

Why improv matters:
  • Play keeps us connected and builds our capacity for resilience.
  • The foundational improv principles of listening, accepting, and building together are vital to the art of improvisation and to life.
  • Improv play connects people and builds community.
  • Laughter is vital to our health and well-being.
  • At the end of Foundation 1, the coach will make a recommendation for each student about what next step is best — repeating Foundation 1 to strengthen the necessary skills or moving to Foundation 2.

Still on the fence? Here’s why you should study improv at BATS.

NOTE: Attendance at the first session of your course is strongly encouraged. If you think you will have to miss the first session of your Foundation 1 class, please notify the office before registering.
