This class is an introduction to performing long-form improv.  We’ll study narrative and use those tools to tell stories in two very popular genres.  The first is fantasy, which will be along of lines of hidden-world modern fantasy, like you’d find in Harry Potter, His Dark Materials, or The Magicians.  The second is science fiction, which will be a space exploration, similar to shows like Star Trek, The Expanse, or The Mandalorian.

You don’t have to be an expert in either of these genres to sign up for this class, we’ll go over everything you need to know.  The focus of the class will be on telling a strong narrative.

This 8-week workshop prepares you for your first performance in front of an audience by breaking down and covering these different core elements of performance:

  • Stage skills
  • Shape of show
  • Games (setting up, introducing, and playing)
  • Scenes (setting up, starting, and ending)
  • Audience interaction
  • Ensemble-building

You’ll learn new games and explore the balance between games and scenes for a well-crafted show. The Workshop includes four one hour performances.
