Welcome, BART rider!

Whether you’re new to improv or a longtime fan, we’re glad you’re planning to join us at BATS Improv. This page has everything you need to know before you arrive so you can relax, laugh, and enjoy the show.

Getting to the Theater

Address and location
The BATS Bayfront Theatre is located at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco at 2 Marina Blvd, Bldg. B, 3rd floor. The theatre is in a walkable, scenic neighborhood with restaurants and cafes nearby, including a couple of really nice restaurants at Fort Mason.

Transportation and parking
We encourage public transit, rideshare, or biking when possible.

Directions from BART
Fort Mason Center, home of BATS Improv, can be reached via public transportation from the Embaracadero or Civic Center BART stations. For routes, schedules, and fares, visit BART’s Trip Planner at https://www.bart.gov/planner

Once inside Fort Mason Center, look for signs to Building B (Bayfront Theatre) on the waterfront side.

BATS Improv is on the 3rd floor of Building B; watch for BATS signage in the lobby and take the elevator or stairs.

If you’re driving:
Parking: Street parking in the area is limited; paid lots are available nearby, but spaces fill up quickly for weekend shows. Plan extra time if you’re driving.

Accessibility
The BATS Bayfront Theatre is wheelchairaccessible via ramps and elevators. Accessible seating is available in the house; please let us know your needs when you book or contact us at bats@improv.org.

If you have other accessibility questions (ASL, sensory needs, etc.), reach out to us at bats@improv.org, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Shows & What to Expect

Performance schedule
BATS shows run Saturday nights at the BATS Bayfront Theatre at Fort Mason in San Francisco. Check our Calendar & Tickets page for exact dates and showtimes.

Show length and format
Most BATS performances run for about 75–90 minutes with an intermission. You’ll see professional improvisers creating scenes and stories on the spot, often using audience suggestions.

Tickets

and Getting In

How to get tickets
You can buy tickets online through our Box Office or at the theater on the day of the show (subject to availability). We recommend booking in advance.

Pricing and seating
Standard singleticket prices are listed on each show page. We offer reduced rates for students, seniors, and groups.
Most shows use general admission seating, with doors opening about 20–30 minutes before curtain. Seats are filled on a firstcome, firstserved basis.

Arrival and latecomers
We recommend arriving 20–30 minutes before showtime to pick up or purchase tickets, grab a drink and a snack, and get seated. If you arrive late, the front of house staff will seat you at the first appropriate pause in the show.

House Rules & Audience Etiquette

To keep the room safe and fun for everyone, we ask you to:

  • Keep phones on silent or “theater mode” during the show and avoid recording or taking photos.
  • Avoid talking or yelling over the performers; questions and suggestions are usually welcomed during specific games or prompts.
  • Respect the boundaries of fellow audience members and performers, especially during participatory moments.
  • Follow the directions of staff regarding seating, exits, and any firesafety instructions.
  • A brief note about audience participation: some shows invite volunteers on stage or solicit suggestions from the audience. If you’re worried about being called on stage or put on the spot, no need to fear!  We only call on people who are excited to volunteer.

Refreshments and Comfort

Drinks and snacks
The BATS concession stand offers beer, wine, and nonalcoholic beverages, plus our world-famous popcorn and a wide variety of salty and sweet treats, available before the show and during intermission. You are welcome to enjoy your snacks in the theatre during the performance.

What to wear
We’re a casual, comeasyouare space. Many guests dress in comfortable clothes suitable for a night out; whatever you feel like wearing is OK with us.

Accessibility, Community, and Inclusion
BATS is committed to creating an antiracist, antioppression, and inclusive environment for artists, staff, and audiences. Our Community Standards outline how we seek to foster respect, accountability, and belonging for everyone who walks through our doors.

If you have concerns or feedback during or after your visit, you can share them with us via our Conflict Process page (https://www.improv.org/conflict-process/) or by emailing director@improv.org.
