There’s no need to socially-distance yourself from the joys of improvisation!  BATS is bringing improv to the virtual classroom, so you can play, laugh and have fun with others without leaving your home. Some are single-session classes,  some are a series of classes, but all of them are guaranteed to bring smiles right to your screen.

Classes for Individuals

Improv Storytelling for Kids with Jenny Meyer Rosen

Class Time/Date: Tues and Thurs Afternoons – 4:15-4:45 pm
Schedule: 4 sessions; 2 times a week for two weeks, June  2, 4, 9, and 11
Class size: 12 students maximum
Class length: 30 minutes (2 hours total)
Prerequisites: Ages 5-8

Tuition: $35 for all 4 sessions or $10 to drop-in for 1 session!

Come together for drop-in storytime!  Explore telling stories, creating characters, and having a lot of fun twice a week with a veteran BATS Improv performer, coach, and early-childhood teaching artist.  In this interactive class, we will tell familiar stories, and make up new ones together!

Improv and Virtual Happy Hour with Chris Sams

Class Time/Date: Friday, May 29, 2020 / 5-6:30 pm
Class size: 16 students maximum
Class length: 90 minutes (1.5 hours total)
Prerequisites: None! Open to all adults 18 and older.

Tuition: $22.50

Join Chris Sams for an hour of improv. Then BYOB to virtual happy hour where we laugh, mingle, meet each other, and may make new friends!

Foundation 1 with John Remak

Class Time/Date: Saturdays, May 30, June 6, 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18 and 25; 1:00-3:00 pm
Schedule: 8 sessions
Class size: 16 students maximum
Class length: 2 hours (16 hours total)
Prerequisites: None! Open to all adults 18 and older.

Tuition: $240

Foundation 1 is our fun introduction to the joys and thrills of improvisation and the BATS-style of improvised theatre. Students learn improv concepts and vocabulary, practice new skills, and perform in a safe, friendly atmosphere. Through games and exercises, you’ll play, explore, and experiment with creating characters and scenes, guided by one of our seasoned coaches. Foundation 1 is all about unleashing your innate skill. Are you human? Then you have all the experience necessary to excel!

At the conclusion, everyone “passes” and can move on to Foundation 2, but you can also take Foundation 1 as many times as you’d like. You’re sure to get something new out of it each time!

*Attendance at the first session of your course is strongly encouraged – if you think you have to miss the first session of your Foundation 1 class, please notify the office before registering.*

Characters and Scenes on Zoom with Dave Dennison

Class Time/Date: Sundays , May 31, June 7, 14, and 21– 1:00-3:00 pm
Schedule: 4 sessions
Class size: 12 students maximum
Class length: 2 hours (8 hours total)
Prerequisites: Experience in improv scene work (not sure if you meet the requirements? Email us at registrar@improv.org)

Tuition: $120

In this 4 week course for experienced improvisers, we’ll explore scenes and characters on the virtual stage. The limitation of being on a screen improvising with someone else on a screen presents a great artistic challenge. Many of the aspects of improv that are familiar to us have been removed, but there are new opportunities as well. Now we are more than just actors, writers and directors, but cinematographers, set and lighting designers and much more.

Intro to Improv Games & Scenes with John Remak

Improvised Comedy Documentaries with Chris Sams
Class Time/Date: 7-9pm / Mondays (June 8, 15, 22, 29, and July 6)
Schedule: 5 sessions plus 1 performance on July 11!
Class size: 8 students maximum
Class length: 2 hours (10 hours total)

Tuition: $220

If you are delighted by the faux-documentaries directed by Christopher Guest, and you are an advanced-skilled improvisor, then this class is definitely for you. A format that is usually heavily edited in order to be entertaining provides an exciting challenge to the improviser. Together, we will explore how to build a world, quirky characters, land a plot-advancing narrative style in order to create art that is highly satisfying to both performer and viewer – while being completely improvised!

 
 
Silly Saturdays: Improvised Game Shows with Chris Sams
Class Time/Date:  2-4pm / Saturday, June 13th, 2020
Class size: 16 students maximum

Prerequisite: None! Open to all adults 18 and over
