The
Sunday Players
The Sunday Players is a performing group for students who completed the series of BATS classes. They are designers, sales reps, teachers, lawyers, real estate agents, marketing professionals, filmmakers, moms, dads, paralegals, building contractors, non-profit executives, rocket scientists, fitness trainers, artists, actors and more. And they all improvise! Catch them in action each and every Sunday night at the Bayfront.
The
Sunday Player program is designed to help graduate-level
improvisers enhance their performance skills by providing
an opportunity to perform in front of a live audience on
a regular basis. The Sunday Players perform several formats,
including Micetro and Theatresports. Through workouts, feedback,
performance, and ongoing classes, students develop their
improv performance skills. |
|
As
a "graduate-level" student performing group, The Sunday Players
are considered a part of the school. Players should continue
seeking opportunities to learn. Joining the Sunday Players
is not the end of a process, but the beginning of advanced
improv study.
Becoming a Sunday Player
Students who want to join the Sunday Players must complete the series of BATS workshops: Foundation I, Foundation II, Foundation II, Performance I, and Performance II. After a student's Micetro performance, the coach and associate dean will confer to determine if an individual student has exhibited the skills necessary to perform improv in front of an audience. While students do not need to be “expert” improvisers at this stage, they need to demonstrate that they are ready to grow and learn from the experience of performing improv in front of an audience on an ongoing basis.
Unless the coach and associate dean feel that the student is not ready, those players that complete Performance II will be eligible to become an “active” Micetro Sunday Player, eligible to play in the 7 p.m. Sunday shows ONLY. There will be a six-month introductory period. At the end of the six months, the student will meet one-on-one with the associate dean to discuss their play. At that time, the associate dean will determine if the student will continue to play with the Sunday Players.
Students who wish to play in the Theatresports portion of the Sunday shows may choose to take the Performance III course. Successful completion of this course will allow a player to become an "active" Theatresports Sunday Player, eligible to play in the 8 p.m. Sundays shows in addition to the the 7 p.m. Micetro shows.
Advanced Sunday Players who have completed some long-form training are elibigle to perform in the 9 p.m. Sunday specialty shows.
Student performance opportunities at BATS are limited. The Sunday Players may not satisfy all of an individual's performance needs; players are strongly encouraged to develop other improv performance outlets.
Membership Requirements
To remain an active member of the Sunday Players, an individual
must:
|
|
Receive
orientation from a Sunday Reps upon admittance to
the program (this may occur by phone). |
|
|
Provide support for one BATS show per month. (defined below) |
|
|
Take
at least one specialty or advanced class each month. |
|
|

Support
Sunday Players are required to provide support at least
one show per month. Support duties include taking tickets,
passing out programs, cleaning the theater, taking out trash,
selling concessions, running camera, keeping score, serving
customers, etc. Players can always volunteer to do additional
support and help is greatly appreciated.
One of the side benefits of support duties is the opportunity
to watch other BATS shows. We believe that viewing improv
is an important part of enhancing your own skills.
Classes
Monthly classes are part of the ongoing training component
of the Sunday Players. They provide advance training and
an opportunity to work with other improvisers in the Sunday
Player ensemble.
