BATS Improv School Curriculum
Announcing our new and improved program of study for 2006

We are happy and excited to unveil our enhanced and upgraded curriculum just in time for for the new year!

In 2006, BATS will celebrate 20 years of providing top-notch improvisational theatre training. And while thousands of students have studied on the BATS stage, we’re not content to rest on our laurels. So over the past six months, we took a comprehensive look at our program of study. In January, we are launching our upgraded program of improvisational theatre classes.

We’ve retained what students love about the BATS workshops (after all, in a recent student survey, an amazing 100 percent of respondents said that they would recommend a BATS workshop to a friend).
But we’ve also taken steps to improve our program:

• A clearer, streamlined path through the program of instruction
• More feedback for students at all levels
• A quicker path to perform on the BATS stage
• More performance opportunities for students
• Greater consistency in what is taught in a specific class
• The addition of “stage craft” instruction to help improvisers further develop the tools to perform improv in theatrical settings
• Specialty class offerings that target specific areas of interest
• Advanced long-form training for those students who desire it
• More dynamic Sunday shows, bigger audiences, more fun!

The BATS curriculum is inspired by the work of Keith Johnstone and from BATS’ own 20-year tradition of innovation and experimentation. We use Johnstone’s Theatresports format as a cornerstone of our curriculum because we believe it provides a solid foundation on which to build skills. And our faculty (which comprise one of the most experienced improv coaching staffs in the world) is constantly working to provide the best training possible.

We hope you’ll come play with us! BATS has a class for you, regardless of your previous level of experience.

If you are currently studying with us, we invite you to explore these upgrades to the program. And if you’re new, we invite you to dive in and see what an impact the study of improv can have on your life.
