Internships for BATS School of Improv

As part of our mission, BATS Improv is committed to making our classes accessible to anyone interested in learning the craft of improv, regardless of ability to pay standard tuition rates.

In that spirit, we are pleased to offer our Internship Program! Participating Interns will have the opportunity to learn about theater operations and the craft of improv. Interns support the operations of our Friday and Saturday night Company shows and attend a specific, pre-approved class, tuition-free.

One open Intern position is available for most classes. Please note that Intern positions are opened at the discretion of the School Operations Manager and are not available for intensives or summer school workshops. Other exceptions will be noted in class descriptions and on the website.

How It Works

After submitting an application and being approved, Interns will sign up for an in-person Support Orientation training and commit to a number of show support shifts that is equal to the number of class sessions plus 1. (Example: an Intern for a 6-week Foundation 1 class would support 7 shows.)

Show support shifts generally consist of ushering, helping sell concessions, helping clean before and after the show, and being a friendly, welcoming face of BATS to our patrons.  Each night, you’ll be under the direction of our experienced, friendly and welcoming House Manager.

Interns are expected to complete half of their show support shifts prior to the start of their class, and they are required to complete all shifts by the final meeting of their class.

Internships are open to all adults ages 18 and over! No prior experience with BATS or improv is required to participate.

Professionalism and punctuality are necessary, as are a good attitude, friendly demeanor, and a general willingness to help out where needed.

We expect that all interns are available to complete the required number of show support shifts in the required timeframe; no exceptions are made.

**If any shifts are missed without prior consent from School Manager/House Manager/Artistic Director, participation in the program will be terminated.**
