Kat Koppett
Kat
Koppett has been a BATS Company member since 1997. Before
that, she spent a wonderful six years with Freestyle Repertory
Theatre, the resident Theatresports company of New York.
At Freestyle, Kat developed ‘Spontaneous Broadway’, which
she now directs for BATS. Her other BATS’ duties include
performing, coaching, and running BATS’ Corporate Division.
In her non-BATS life, Kat acts, writes, teaches, does corporate
training, and bakes cookies.
In addition, Kat Koppett is a co-founder of StoryNet, LLC,
a consultancy focusing on the use of storytelling and theatre
techniques in organizational settings. Her book, Training
to Imagine: Practical Improvisational Theatre Techniques
to Enhance Creativity, Teamwork, Leadership and Learning,
was published by Stylus Publishing Inc. in 2001. Kat has
designed and delivered training for companies including
Oracle, Sony, NYNEX, Roche Molecular Systems, Price Waterhouse
Cooper, Kaiser-Permanente and Microsoft.

Kat holds
a B.F.A. in Drama from New York University and an M.A. in Organizational
Psychology from Columbia University. A member of the National
Speakers’ Association, Kat has presented for the American Society
for Training and Development (ASTD), the North American Simulation
and Gaming Association (NASAGA), Influent, International Society
for Performance Improvement (ISPI), the Rotary Club and the Young
Presidents’ Organization.
In 1995, TheaterWeek Magazine named Kat one of the year’s ‘Unsung
Heroes’ for her creation of ‘Spontaneous Broadway’, which is now
performed regularly all over the world. Her acting credits include
the title role in ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’, both Off-Broadway
and in the Soviet Union; Rosalind in ‘As You Like It’ with the
Manhattan Stage Company; and ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ with Theodore
Bikel. She has been seen in television ads for Pillsbury, Quaker
Oats, and Dr Pepper (she was a Pepper!). In 1998, her short play,
‘Don’t Get Around Much Anymore’, was a winner in Playground’s
Emerging Playwrights Festival, and she has been a regular contributor
to the Iron Workers’ Local 202’s ‘Ladies and Gentleman...’ series.
