Kat Koppett

Kat Koppett has been a BATS Company member since 1997. Before that, she spent a wonderful six years with Freestyle Repertory Theatre, the resident Theatresports company of New York. At Freestyle, Kat developed ‘Spontaneous Broadway’, which she now directs for BATS. Her other BATS’ duties include performing, coaching, and running BATS’ Corporate Division. In her non-BATS life, Kat acts, writes, teaches, does corporate training, and bakes cookies.

In addition, Kat Koppett is a co-founder of StoryNet, LLC, a consultancy focusing on the use of storytelling and theatre techniques in organizational settings. Her book, Training to Imagine: Practical Improvisational Theatre Techniques to Enhance Creativity, Teamwork, Leadership and Learning, was published by Stylus Publishing Inc. in 2001. Kat has designed and delivered training for companies including Oracle, Sony, NYNEX, Roche Molecular Systems, Price Waterhouse Cooper, Kaiser-Permanente and Microsoft.

Kat holds a B.F.A. in Drama from New York University and an M.A. in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University. A member of the National Speakers’ Association, Kat has presented for the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), the North American Simulation and Gaming Association (NASAGA), Influent, International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI), the Rotary Club and the Young Presidents’ Organization.

In 1995, TheaterWeek Magazine named Kat one of the year’s ‘Unsung Heroes’ for her creation of ‘Spontaneous Broadway’, which is now performed regularly all over the world. Her acting credits include the title role in ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’, both Off-Broadway and in the Soviet Union; Rosalind in ‘As You Like It’ with the Manhattan Stage Company; and ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ with Theodore Bikel. She has been seen in television ads for Pillsbury, Quaker Oats, and Dr Pepper (she was a Pepper!). In 1998, her short play, ‘Don’t Get Around Much Anymore’, was a winner in Playground’s Emerging Playwrights Festival, and she has been a regular contributor to the Iron Workers’ Local 202’s ‘Ladies and Gentleman...’ series.
